Welcome to the University of Business in Prague!

The University of Business in Prague, not-for-profit organization was established in 2000, when it gained the state approval to act as a private higher educational institution. The accreditation in accordance with the “higher education” law was granted to the University in International Territorial Studies. The first academic year was opened in 2001/2002.

The mission of the University of Business is to prepare highly qualified specialists for work in attractive service industries, offering quality education in accredited programs in order to enable them to start their career in middle or top managements of tourism and aviation businesses.

The University of Business is permanently improving the quality level of offered programs by involvement in activities of the Czech Hotels and Restaurants Association (AHR ČR), Czech Tourism Guides Association (AP ČR), The Czech Hotels and Restaurants Association (AHR ČR), The Association of Institutions for Adult Education (AIVD ČR), Network of European Regions for a Sustainable and Competitive Tourism (NECSTour), The Association for Tourism and Leisure Education (ATLAS) as well as by involving experts from industry in the education process and curriculum development.

The number of academic staff is 98, from that 30 are full-time teachers, including 2 professors, 5 associate professors, 18 with Ph.D. title, and 68 are part-time teachers, including 3 professors, 10 associated professors, and 42 with Ph.D. title.

The University is accessible by Metro B (Yellow Line), Národní třída Station, or by several tram lines (e.g. 9, 21, 22), Národní třída Station, then 2 minutes´ walk to the main entrance.

Basic Information

The University of Business in Prague offers complete facilities including well-furnished, fully air-conditioned rooms and halls, equipped with multi-media presentation devices, library with a number of PCs, copiers and printers available to students, books and magazines. Wi-fi connection to the Internet in classrooms, computer and study rooms are matter of fact.

Food and beverage services are provided in a canteen 2 minutes walking distance from the University,, there are several vending machines on school premises.

Students´ health care centre is situated 2 minutes walk from University.

The University recommends its students accommodation facilities which provide good quality services upon request and offers accommodation scholarships.

A department store, cash dispenser, bank, insurance company, several restaurants and cafés, and popular theatre Ypsilonka is situated close to the University.

Entry Requirements

Entry Requirements for Bachelor Studies:

  • Czech citizens: completed secondary education (notarized copy of the leaving examination certificate must be sent to the University with the application form)
  • Non Czech citizens: completed secondary education (notarized copy of  recognized document should be submitted latest at registration)
  • Non Czech citizens should have a relevant command of the Czech or Slovak language
  • Applicants graduated from secondary special schools (VOŠ) and wishing to study in the bachelor program (2 – 3 standard terms) are required to have graduated in economics and management
  • Applicants for part-time studies should have at least one year of relevant work experience.

Entry Requirements for Master Studies:

  • Czech citizens: Completed bachelor studies or relevant part of master studies (notarized copy of diploma)
  • Non Czech citizens, who do not have Bachelor diploma from a Czech or Slovak school, have to submit a notarized copy of recognized document attesting a graduation at the university type of school.

Admission

Application form should be submitted on a standard form issued by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports of the Czech Republic and can be obtained here.

Enrolment Process

The Rector of the University of Business in Prague approves the applicant’s enrolment. The quantity of enrolled applicants is limited.

All applicants receive a written document of the results of enrolment process.

The legal force of the final enrolment approval is based on signing a contract between the applicant and the University as well as on tuition fee payment. Failing that, the applicant loses his/her enrolment opportunity.

Tuition Fee

The tuition fee per term for bachelor studies is 22 500,- Czech crowns and for master studies it is 25 000,- Czech crowns.

Visa Requirements

Non-Czech citizens who wish to study in the Czech Republic should apply for a student visa at the Czech Embassy in their home countries.

As soon as the non-Czech citizens receive a proof of acceptance to the university, they should apply at the Czech Embassy in their home country for a student visa for period of more than 90 days (according to law 326/1999 regarding foreign residence in the Czech Republic, and its amendments).

Visas for period of more than 90 days are granted by the Foreign Police of the Czech Republic and are valid for up to 365 days. The application process is conducted in the Czech language therefore all documents must be in Czech language and may not be older than 180 days, with the exception of the passport and photos.

Periods of residence, shorter than the period of the validity of the visa, may be extended on condition that the purpose of residence that the visa was issued for does not change, and may be extended only until the expiration date of the original visa. Non-Czech citizens who are in the Czech Republic on temporary visas for periods of more than 90 days, and who would like to stay for periods longer than one year, are entitled to apply for a long-term residence permit.

Applications for visa extension or for long-term residence permits must be submitted to the Foreign Police at the earliest 90 days, and at the latest 14 days, before the expiration date of the visa. Applicants are required to pay a fee upon submission of the application. Visas for periods of more than 90 days can be cancelled if the person is convicted of a crime, does not fulfill the purpose of residence for which the visa was granted, or if the person requests its cancellation. In cases where visa applications are declined, appeals will not be considered. Applicants must apply for visa extension within the required period and pay the proper fees. They will not be notified.

Along with the student visa for periods of 90 days or more, applicants are required to submit:

  • A valid passport
  • Documents proving purpose of residence in the country (acceptance to the university, local address, and proof of paid health insurance)
  • Statement of criminal record from the Czech Republic and from the country the applicant comes from, as well as any country the applicant resided in the last 3 years for a period of more than 6 months (for countries that do not provide this document, applicants need to submit a signed, sworn statement regarding criminal record)
  • 2 identical passport photographs (dimensions 35mm x 45mm) - photos should include a full face, front view and open eyes (retouched photographs will not be accepted)
  • A medical statement may be required by the Embassy or Foreign Police to show that the applicant does not suffer from any serious illness (this is required mainly in cases where the applicant is suspected of being seriously ill)
  • Applications for visas, along with all properly completed documents, should be submitted to the Czech Embassy in the applicant’s home country

Upon arrival at the border in the Czech Republic, non-Czech citizens are required to submit the following documents:

  • Valid passport
  • Valid Czech student visa for periods of more than 90 days

Notes:

  • According to article 93 of law 326/1999, foreigners have 3 days from arrival to report their place of residence in the Czech Republic at the office of the Foreign Police.
  • Students can apply for both short and long term visas
  • Expedition of the visa granting process is possible by requesting the Embassy to send all documents to the Czech Republic by courier - the applicant is responsible for all expenses (in this case, the Consulate is required to send the documents by the next day)

Please note:
There are different conditions for non-Czech citizens as follows:

  • EU citizens – the same rights are exercised toward the Iceland´s, Norwegian, Liechtenstein and Swiss citizens.
  • Citizens from third countries – family members of EU citizens – the same rights are exercised toward the Iceland´s, Norwegian, Liechtenstein and Swiss citizens´ family members.
  • Third countries citizens.

Science and Research

The University of Business  is proud of the significant research work carried out by both its academic staff and its graduating students.
The academic staff works on continuous projects covering all aspects of the programs the University provides. A number are already published authors, while others are working on research towards their PhDs.
As part of their degree programs, students are required to submit a research projects on completion of their courses.
